Chapter 4: Five Elements
Understand Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water as a living system of movement, balance, support, and control in Bazi study.
Five Element Qualities
The Five Elements describe movement and relationship. Wood grows, Fire shines, Earth stabilizes, Metal refines, and Water flows. In Bazi, these qualities are read through the chart's stems, branches, season, and Day Master.
Balance as Context
Element balance should be read as context, not judgment. A repeated element may show emphasis; a missing element may show a theme to understand more carefully.
Reading Element Emphasis
When one element appears often, the chart may give extra attention to that element's themes. When an element is quiet, the reading should ask how that quality appears indirectly, through timing, relationships, or supporting symbols.
Practice Prompt
Look at a chart and count the visible elements first. Then ask which element has seasonal support. This helps separate simple quantity from real chart strength.
